Bomet County Governor Joyce Laboso has passed on.
She died at the Nairobi hospital while receiving treatment for cancer. The woman who is among the three female governors Kenya, left for the UK towards end of May where she went to seek treatment for an ailment which was later found to be colon cancer. She spent close to a month at Royal Marden Foundation Trust Hospital after which she was transferred to India.
Mid of July she jetted back to the country and until her death, she was receiving treatment at Nairobi Hospital.
The Bomet governor has been in Kenya’s political scene for ten years. She got into politics when succeeding her younger sister Lorna as Sotik MP. She successfully unseated former Bomet Governor Isaac Rutto in 2017 in a tough battle.
Joyce Cherono Laboso was born on November 25, 1960. She has left behind a husband and three sons.
Kenyans have taken to social media to eulogise her. Here are some of their comments:

As a Parliamentary Reporter, I interacted with Joyce Laboso often. We also had several conversations when she was preparing to run for Governor.
She outlined a clear and brilliant vision for Bomet.
Her exit is a real blow for Kenya.
