What should have been one of Kenesha Antoine’s happiest days took a sudden tragic turn. Her boyfriend who was attempting an underwater proposal accidentally drowned. She captured the proposal and his last moments on camera, and shared the video online with a heartfelt tribute.
The Louisiana man identified as Steven Weber was vacationing in Tanzania with his girlfriend when the incident happened. They were staying at a Manta Resort cabin on Pemba island where their bedroom was submerged beneath the ocean’s surface.
In the video, Steven can be seen swimming up to the windows of the bedroom holding a note. “I can’t hold my breath long enough to tell you everything I love about you. But everything I love about you I love more every day!” the underwater proposal reads. He then flips the page to show the message “Will you marry me?” before pulling out an engagement ring box.
Kenesha never got a chance to say yes to the underwater proposal. As she posted on her Facebook wall, Steven ‘never emerged from those depths’. In addition, she went on to say that her answer was always ‘Yes! Yes! A million times, yes.’ She also reminisced on their final moments together and the days they had spent in Tanzania on bucket list adventures.
In an official statement, Manta Resort confirmed that a male guest had drowned while diving alone outside the underwater room. However, they have turned the case over to the local Zanzibar police for further investigation. In the statement, the resort also sent their deepest condolences to Steven’s girlfriend, family and friends.
