Safaricom has today unveiled a new logo that honors Olympic marathon champion Eliud Kipchoge in his quest to set another world record. Dubbed ‘INEOS 1:59 Challenge’, Eliud Kipchoge hopes to be the first man to run the 42-kilometer distance in under two hours in Vienna this weekend.
To show our commitment and respect to our icon @EliudKipchoge, we will be changing our M-PESA brand for the next 7 days. Our new logo will be the five letters spelling Kipchoge’s first name, “Eliud” and the numbers “1:59” to denote the challenge. #Eliud159 pic.twitter.com/GtZRHrrRBV

In a glitzy ceremony this morning, Safaricom showed off the new logo which simply read: Eliud 159, from Kenya to the world no human is limited. This will be the new Safaricom M-PESA logo for the next 7 days as a celebration of the greatest marathoner in the world. In addition, Safaricom will also offer Kenyans free YouTube to enable them to watch Eliud Kipchoge in action on Saturday.

Speaking at the new logo launch, Safaricom CEO Michael Joseph said that with this history making moment, they would be going beyond just having Eluid Kipchoge as a Safaricom ambassador. Instead, this time Safaricom would also become his ambassador.
Eliud Kipchoge arrived in Vienna on Tuesday and began his race week preparations ahead of the INEOS 1:59 Challenge. The challenge is sponsored by British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who runs chemical firm INEOS. In addition, he used his Gulfstream G280 private jet, one of the fastest in the market, to fly Eliud Kipchoge to Vienna.
In his words, the world record holder is ‘very excited to be in Vienna, and can’t wait to run the course’.
