Governor Mike Sonko has been arrested hours after Director of Public Prosecutions, Noordin Haji, ordered for his arrest.
The governor was reportedly arrested by DCI detectives, at a roadblock in Voi, in what is believed to be an attempt to escape arrest.
Governor Sonko is expected to be flown via chopper to Nairobi for processing at Integrity Centre.
Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission(EACC) took to their official twitter page to confirm the arrest of the embattled governor.

Speaking earlier today DPP Noordin Haji said, “I have ordered for the immediate arrest and arraignment of Sonko and other officials for the crimes of conflict of interest arising from having received money from the county of Nairobi while serving as governor, unlawful acquisition of public property, money laundering and other economic crimes.”
Governor Sonko and other City Hall officials set to be charged are believed to have benefitted from irregular procurement and payments running up to Ksh.357 million.
Governor Sonko in the company of Peter Mbugua Kariuki (County Secretary), Patrick Mwangang’i (Head Supply Chain Management), Negotiation Tender Opening and Evaluation Committee members Samuel Ndung’u Mwangi, Edwin Kariuki Murimi, Lawrence Mwangi Mukuru, Preston Mwandiki Miriti, Wambua Ndaka and Andrew Nyasiego are set to face eight charges including abuse of office.
Private companies and entities that benefitted for the illegally acquired monies will also be charged alongside the governor.
