It’s Lager Than Life: Tusker Malt Gets A Fresh New Look

Tusker Malt Lager has been a Kenyan favorite for years. With a long legacy of delivering superior and consistent quality, it is not hard to see why. To mark its 23rd anniversary, Tusker Malt has unveiled a new look bottle. The launch event was held at a colorful event at Kengele’s Lavington Green.

The new 330ml green bottle comes with the name Tusker embossed into all four sides instead of the current paper label. Apart from the external changes, the beer is now refined following an optimized production process. As a way of renewing its commitment to its consumers, the recommended retail price for the new Tusker Malt will be Kshs 160.

 

Speaking about the Tusker Malt new look launch, Jane Karuku, Kenya Breweries Limited Managing Director, had this to say:

“Through our qualified production and quality management team, we have been able to re-launch Tusker Malt Lager by responding to our consumers’ concerns on product consistency and packaging. Our promise today is that we will ensure consistency in quality for every sip of Tusker Malt served to each and every consumer anywhere in Kenya.”

In addition, Ms. Karuku mentioned that it had been a very exciting year for the beer business in Kenya. In particular, KBL has improved innovation, launched new products and re-launched existing ones based on consumer feedback. These insights into the changing consumer tastes and preferences was also reflected in the numbers According to the 2019 company’s Annual General Report, KBL witnessed a strong performance in bottled beer returning a 3% volume growth .This contributed to the company’s net revenue for the year ending June 2019 by 12% to KES 82.2 billion.

 

The re-launch of the Tusker Malt Lager is set to keep it on top of the premium beer category going into 2020. This comes at a time when there is stiff competition from both local and international brands. As a leader in the regional beverage alcohol business, East Africa Breweries Limited (EABL) is committed to making alcohol play a positive role in society.

“The brand has undergone an optimized growing process to ensure that we deliver consistent quality and slow brewed lager to give a full flavor to the consumers. We are excited to see where this new journey will take us in the coming year,” said Ms. Ann Joy Muhoro, Head of Beer at EABL.

 

The new Tusker Malt pack will be the second innovation addition to the Tusker Trademark this year after the launch of Tusker Premium Ale in March. This brings the total variants of Tusker to 5, namely Tusker Malt, Tusker Lager, Tusker Cider and Tusker Lite. The brand is addressing consumer trends in the alcohol sector by targeting Kenya’s fast-expanding middle class revelers whose tastes are trending toward premium beer.
