Milimani law courts was yesterday treated to a dose of hearty comedy after Michael Masinza a 20-year-old who was arraigned in court for eating at Java House and refusing to pay took the stand to defend himself.
An apologetic Masinza said, “ Your honour, I am stupid and request to be pardoned.”
He further went to explain to the court that he has learnt the hard way that there is no such thing as “free lunch”.
The 20-year-old was arrested after walking into Java House, Kimathi Street and ordering mango juice, roast chicken and chips, that summed up to Ksh.1310, before he tried to make a run for it.
Word has it that the waiters pursued him before he was arrested and booked at the Central Police Station where he spent a day before taking the stands at Milimani Law Courts where he was freed.
In typical twitter fashion netizens had this to say about Michael Masinza’s story:

Do you really have to take a guy to court for 1,300 shillings?
I don't condone such behaviour but the management of JAVA had a chance to do CSR and even help the young man get a job or something or even go to his home & feed his fam too as a Xmas gift
Would have been a great PR
