Irene Ng’endo Mukii may not be a well known name to many people. However, this Kenyan beauty queen has just won the Miss Africa Calabar 2019 crown. The fourth edition of this pageant was held in the city of Calabar, Cross River State, Nigeria.
During the star-studded ceremony, Irene walked away with the Miss Africa Calabar 2019 crown when she defeated 21 other contestants from all over Africa. Daniela Lopes from Angola and Ethel Maimela from South africa also emerged as first and second runners up respectively. Apart from the crown, the Kenyan beauty queen also took home a cash prize of $35,000 and an all expenses paid trip to Malaysia.
The Miss Africa Calabar 2019 festivities were held as part of activities to mark the Carnival Calabar with the theme ‘Humanity’. The beauty queens went through extensive rounds of tasks and auditions before the final winners were announced. Speaking during the pageant, the Governor of Cross River State, Professor Ben Ayade said humanity is the only religion the world needs to embrace and the society should pull down all the shackles that engender inhumanity in the society.
Irene Ng’endo Mukii is a Mathematics and Computer Science student of the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. The Kenyan beauty queen is also the reigning Miss JKUAT and a model. After the win, she took to Instagram to thank all her supporters and fans that had seen her through the journey.
