Against popular belief that Kenyan policemen are cruel, a viral video has surfaced showing 5 armed police giving 2 arrested Egerton students a lecture. This is after the students at the institution were involved in a riot.
In the video, the arrested students were seated on the ground while the policemen paced around as they dished out advice to them.
One of the policemen can be heard saying, “Kwanza kuna mwingine baba yake anahangaika kutafuta pesa ya vitu umeharibu.” Loosely translated to mean some of your parents are busy finding money for the property that you have damaged.
The school has been experiencing student unrest over a fee of Ksh16,862 in damages imposed on each student by the school’s management following their 2019 December strike.
The students are protesting that the money should be reduced to Ksh.2000. This move has sparked another wave of unrest in the institution.
Currently, the institution is under heavy police presence. Only students that have paid the damage fee are allowed into the institution.
