27-year-old Kenyan born Ivy Awino alias Dj Poison Ivy is among the top Kenyans making it big on the international music stage.
Dj Poison Ivy is the official DJ for the Dallas Mavericks and the Dallas Wings.
Ivy has in the course of her career learned the dynamics of moving the crowd during basketball matches.
“I can tell when somebody’s about to throw an oop to Nerlens [Noel]. And I can feel it, I can see it coming down the court, so I might go for a charge. Or I might go for a different kind of sound effect so that when he dunks it, it’ll hit,” reiterated the celebrated Dj.
In her role, she is in charge of all the music played in the AAC [American Airlines Center].
Ivy’s journey to becoming a top Dj began while in campus. She asked a fratmate whether she could borrow his deejaying equipment. The next day he showed up and dropped the equipment off and told me to figure out how to play.
Consequently, she taught herself how to mix, gaining exposure on the radio in Milwaukee and moving on to clubs and main stages.
In school, Ivy studied corporate communication and minored in advertising.
