Kenya is one of the most popular countries in Africa. It’s known for its wit in Olympics and also tops the list of most active internet users across the world. If you are a movie junkie as well, then you’ve probably noticed that Kenya is even used as a name of a person – that indicates how people relate with Kenya. When it comes to Hollywood, there are many talented actors and actresses that are Kenyan. Here are just a few of them you probably didn’t know about.

 

10. Lupita Nyong’o

You can’t talk about the most talented actresses and fail to mention Lupita Nyong’o. She is a multi-talented trend setter and cultural icon. She was born in Mexico and raised in Kenya – where her parents still live. In 2018, she was listed as the highest-paid actress in the world, pulling in an impressive $75 million (Ksh. 7.5 billion) between November 2017 and November 2018, a nearly $40 million (Ksh.4 Billion) lead over her closest competition.

She has featured in blockbuster record-breaking movies such as 12 years as a slave, Black Panther, Star Wars, Queen of Katwe and Us. She is also a best-selling author with Sulwe, a children’s book, under her name.

9. Edi Gathegi

Edi Mue Gathegi was born in 1979 in Umoja Estate located in Nairobi, Kenya and he later moved in California, USA. His screen appearances have been cast into top flying movies such as The Blacklist, The Blacklist: Redemption, StartUp, X-Men: First Class, Twilight, House, CSI: Miami, Nikita, Into the Badlands, Veronica Mars, Crank and Lincoln Heights. In addition, he was nominated and got featured as an actor in a play for the role of Franco Wicks in the Geffen Playhouse production of Superior Donuts”.

8. Benji Onyango

Benjamin Alfred Onyango Ochieng’ popularly known as  Benji Onyango was born and raised in Nairobi’s low-class estate Ofafa Jericho. Benji attended California State University, Stanislaus in Turlock, California where he pursued a career in music and acting. His top movies include; Tears of The sun in 2003, God’s Not Dead in 2014 and Beautifully Broken 2017. He has also featured in Trusts and Estates, 2013,  X-Files, General Hospital, Two Worlds, The Shield, Dysfunctional Organized and Chapter One.
